A Guide to Visiting Shanghai During Chinese New Year 2026

Where to Eat & Drink around Shanghai during Chinese New Year

February 12, 2026

Gone are the days when Shanghai would become a ghost town during Chinese New Year, requiring those introverted few who decide to remain in town to stock up on groceries, booze, and home entertainment in advance. Now, instead of every restaurant and bar shuttering for weeks on end, there are a few days at the beginning of the holiday that many F&B venues close to give their staff time off to celebrate the holiday with family and friends, but most adjust their hours and swing their doors back open during the second half of the holiday, catering to the growing number of visitors.
