Founded in 2023 by Koh Yung Shen, the creative mind behind the critically acclaimed local speakeasy Backdoor Bodega, Penang Cocktail Week has quickly grown into one of Asia’s most distinctive spirits festivals.

Unlike many events that focus strictly on elite bar metrics, PCW looks inward to showcase the warm, communal spirit of northern Malaysian hospitality. The official theme for 2026 is "Welcome Home," structured around five traditional local pillars:

• Kaki Lang ("One of Us"): Embracing the tight-knit global bartending community.
• Makan Angin ("To Explore / Travel"): Steering festival-goers outward to experience the island’s heritage neighborhoods, beaches, and hidden cultural gems.
